A Sunday event wai the "sweetheart coffee party" for which State Representative and Mrs. Robert L. Elfitrom and Dean and Mr. Melvin H. Geist were hosts to a large group of friends at the Elfitrom home . . . Guests were Invited to call be ' tween S and 7 o'clock, the ln : formal invitations in the form of a Valentine from "Bob and Hulda and Melvin and Ruth" asking guests to bring their sweethearts for coffee ... It was a very hospitable and "vis ity" party . . . Guests were in vited to inspect the new en trance off the Sun room to the large recreation room in the - basement . . . The basement room too has been refurnished In provincial style . Beautiful arrangements of spring flowers featured the party ... At one end of '.he liv ing room was a bouquet of flow ering plum, at the other end a large bouquet of Calla- lilies ... On the mantel, pale pink carnations with heather On the table in front of the fire place, red carnations and a big Valentine box of candy . . . The dining table was set with a pink cloth, the centerpiece a large nosegay arrangement of pink and red roses, purple and laven der ranunculuses, purple hya cinths and heather . . On the buffet an arrangement of flow ering plum, candles at either side with nosegays of flowers around the base of the hold ers . Among the guests greeted during our call: Mr. and Mrs. . Russel E. Patterson, wife of Oregon's governor snd a state AAUW board member, and Mrs. Robert T. Thornton, the state -AAUW's vice president and wife of the new state at torney general, the Thorntons recently moving here from Till amook to make their home. . . The coffee was given at the home of Mrs. Floyd L. Utter with Mrs. Arthur P. Sprarue as co-chairman. . . . Receiving with Mrs. Utter and the two honor ees were Mrs. Thoirrai W. Chuschill, president of the lo cal AAUW, and Mrs. Cresene A. Farias of Portland, state AAUW president. . . . Mrs. Far iss was greeted with "happy birthday" messages from many friends who knew it was her birthday anniversary. . . . Ac companying Mrs. Fariss from Portland was Mrs. Arthur Lar son. ... Featured in the living room decor was a huge arrangement of red anthurium sent by air from Hawaii by Miss Ann Mon son, formerly of Salem, espe cially for the party. The an thuriums were arranged in a spresding bouquet on the man tel in front of the mirror, the bright red most appropriate for Valentine's day. . . . The cof fee table in the dining room was set with a lace cloth over a red one The centerpiece was a large bouquet of red ran unculuses and tulips and white stock, snap dragons snd hyacin ths. ... On the buffet was an arrangement of bright pink ca mellias. . . . Msny com ments on the decorations. . . . A red heart with custer of vl-, olets was on the door to greet guests ... Pink featured the many arrangements of flowers, in the living room . . . The tea table was set with a blue satin cloth . .-. The centerpiece was a milk glass compote with a nose gay of violets, pink carnations and roses - pink satin ribbon streamers running out from the bouquet . . . Pink candles in milk glass holders entwined with flowers also decorated the table . . . The refreshments carried out the Valentine note- cherry pies with whip cream hearts decorating them ... A large group of friends called for the -event . A pretty Valentine time ta ble featured the tea for .which Salem Woman's club entertain ed Friday afternoon at the club house to honor wives of legisla tors and wives of supreme court justices. . . . The tea table was set with a white satin cloth. The centerpiece was of red and white carnations and maid en hair fern with red candles at either side. . . . Pouring were Mrs. Paul L. Patterson, Ore gons first lady and a special guest at the tea, and Mrs, George Rossntan, wife of Jus tice Rossman of the supreme court and an active member of the club. .. . Valentines were in the windows in the parlor and a variety of spring flowers decorated the room. . . . Espe cially Interesting was the pro gram, Mrs. William L. Phil lips, Sr. giving a delightfully descriptive talk about the in auguration which she and Mr, Phillips attended in Washing ton, D. C; and Dean Melvin H, Geist, of Willamette university singing a group of numbers. Mrs. Geist as accompanist, New members welcomed at the club were Mrs. Lloyd Reinholdt, Mrs. O. E. Norton to Robert Thomas Dixon of Turner was solemnized on Saturday, Febru ary 14, in the fireplace room of the First Christian church. The Rev. Dudley Ftraln officiated at the 5 o clock ceremony. The bride wore a blue lace afternoon drr-s and her corsage was of red roses. The couple was attended by Mrs. Lydia Schur and Morris Miller. For her wedding trip, the bride wore a navy blue dress with a rose and blue coat and navy blue accessories. After next week the couple will be at home at 4950 Sunny view Avenue.
